This has got to be one of the cutest cards I have ever made. For real. My brother and his wife sent me some adorable photos of their girls in their pink Easter dresses, and it inspired me to create a puppy-themed photo holder card using our Freshcut Crafts Standard Frame-It card. This card frames a 4 x 6 photo perfectly, which made it the perfect choice for mailing this adorable photo to my parents.

Since the puppy was going to be brown and black, I wanted him to be on a red card for some pop, and because the girls’ pink dresses would nicely complement the color. One of the best things about this card idea is that the puppy punch art is large enough to carry the front cover. I played with putting a layer of printed paper behind him, but he really didn’t need it. I landed on a simple, White Confetti colored EZ Layer instead.

The puppy is actually quite simple to make from a selection of brown and black Freshcut Crafts Shape Sheets in hearts, circles and ovals. You’ll want to watch the video to see how he comes together, but he’s easier than he looks.

Once the puppy is mounted to the colored EZ Layer on the cover, the photo easily can be mounted to the inner frame and fastened down. The opposing panel can also be glued down to create a two-panel interior spread.I wrote a (sample) note on the white EZ Layer that comes with the Frame-It card and mounted that to the left panel. Then, just for fun, I added a puppy paw print stamp in the lower left corner of the frame, and finished it off with brown polka-dotted washi ribbon.

This card was so cute and so fun to make. It really feels more like a gift than a card.

My daughter, Audrey, suggested that he could also be adorable with a party hat and gift or birthday message in his paws as a birthday card! So, we tried it – here’s our Small Basic card with a birthday puppy on the front!! To further simplify, this one was made without any dimensional foam risers. All you need to do is add balloons from our Butterfly-Balloon Shape Sheet, and a triangle hat from our Star-Triangle Shape Sheet with a flower for the pom-pom (from our Flower Shape Sheet).
